April is National Poetry month. The class has taken to it pretty quickly. We wrote 2 this week, a poem about opposites and an acrostic poem. I am trying to decide if I want to make a class book or hang it up in the hallway.
We write in journals every day, and this week, we switched to our last journal for the year – it’s a full page lined paper one. It’s their “getting ready for 1st grade journal”! J I’ve given them somewhat free rein about what they can write about as it is a little easier to do that write about a topic that they might not be interested in…except today. Recently I stumbled upon a “cool” story starter thing on the Scholastic website. It looks like a slot machine and gives you different ideas for a journal/story topic. We tried this today and the machine gave us: “Write a quick story about a jumpy hen that slipped on a banana.” The kids thought this was hilarious! And I must admit, it is a little funny. I told them to be as creative as they wanted…and boy did they get creative! It was quite fun to read! We’ll do this again next week, and I am considering sending journals home 1 day next week so you can read their great work!
We had a great time at Guys and Dolls, Jr. yesterday. The class wrote Thank you notes and told the cast their favorite part. Some of the students even included an invitation to “It’s a Small World” in their note! How cute!
Speaking of It’s a Small World…the show is on Thursday, April 14th. If you have not sent shoes to school with your child for practice, please be sure to send them next week. We want them to be comfortable wearing them and walking (quietly) on the stage with them. If you have questions about the costumes, please let me know. Please see the attached note about the performance day.
Report cards went home today – please look for it in your child’s folder. If you don’t have any questions or concerns, please sign it and return to school on Monday.
Later this month, kindergarten will be going on our annual Easter Egg Hunt. Field trip permission slips went home earlier this week. Please send it back, if you have not.
Have a great weekend!!!
