Today was another exciting day in Science in K2! Amber's dad donated a large pumpkin to our class for some experiments with our 5 senses - and then we had some Halloween fun with it! We explored the pumpkin with our sense of sight and touch initially. As we started to carve open the pumpkin, we also used our sense of smell and hearing. We used our sense of touch a lot for this! The students touched the outside of the pumpkin, the pulp and the seeds. We tried to describe those sensations and put them into words. Our sense of smell as assaulted! Most of the kids have had pumpkin pie or pumpkin bread, but it didn't seem like many had smelled a "raw" pumpkin. We had a hard time describing that one! Lastly, as we finished carving the pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern, the class was allowed to use their sense of taste. They tried a piece of the pumpkin! We realized that the pumpkin didn't really have much taste to it - it was somewhat bland. We did discover it was pretty crunchy - like an apple, as 1 student remarked!
Get ready for Friday! The storybook character parade will start about 8:15 and then Kindergarten has their Fall Festival! How exciting!!!! Remember to bring your storybook if you want to participate in the parade!
